RIP Grandma, 1976 - 2011

Amy and GrandmaGrandma, WB Double Delight, passed away on Monday 12/19/11. Grandma will be missed by all, but none more so than her owner Amy Rader, with whom she shared so many of her years together. Grandma, in her career at White Birch, has introduced more people to the pleasures of riding, horsemanship and showing than can readily be counted. Grandma was the first horse innumerable children started on at White Birch and she was always protective and caring for her young riders. Honest, companionable and loving, all who have had contact with Grandma, whether in the ring or just "hanging out" by her stall will have nothing but fond memories of her. She truly was the "Queen of the Barn". A scrap book celebrating Grandma's life is in the works, and contributions of photos, stories and memorabilia would be appreciated. Some of the photos and comments may be found on the White Birch Farm Facebook page. Grandma may be gone, but will always be in the hearts of her family, the Rader's, and also her extended WBF family. Godspeed Grandma.

WBF to Sponsor AHCC Schooling Show!

White Birch Farm will be sponsoring an AHCC schooling show on 10/02/11. THe show will be held at Baldwin Stables in Deep River, CT. This show is in addition to the existing 2011 schedule, and brings the series show total to six. For those not familiar with the AHCC schooling shows, they are a one day, in state, open show. These shows are a low stress, cost effective and fun way to be introduced to showing for both rider and horse. All skill levels are welcome. For more information, please go to the AHCC site. We are really looking forward to this event, so mark the date on your calendar!

RIP Cody

Louise and Cody LaughingCody, beloved companion and friend to Louise Oxenhorn, passed away on Wednesday 2/9/11. Cody, a Belgian draft horse, was 26 years old. Cody and Louise had been together since he was 2 years old and, as Louise always liked to say, was the best relationship she ever had with a man. When coming into the barn Cody was the first horse you’d come to and was our version of the Wal-Mart greeter. He definitely earned the moniker of “Gentle Giant” and will be sorely missed by all of us who had the good fortune and grace to know him. A memorial page for Cody will be made available at The Final Gift. Additional photos and comments may be found on the White Birch Farm Facebook page. Cody may be gone, but will certainly never be forgotten by his WBF and extended family. Condolences and remembrances may be sent to Louise at the following address:

Amy Rader Earns National AQHA Recognition

Amy Rader, in the first quarter of 2009, has earned both the AQHA’s Show Managers Certificate and Specialized All Novice Judge credentials. These credentials are only obtained after a rigorous training, testing and interview process. This selective and difficult process is to ensure that those individuals who hold these certifications will be qualified to perform their duties at AQHA sanctioned events in a knowledgeable, fair, consistent and safe manner. This follows closely on Amy receiving regional recognition by being awarded the CQHA Connecticut Professional Horseman’s Award. Well done Amy!
